This week I buckled down after months of waiting. I had been biding my time but decided I could wait no longer, and hit the "checkout" button on Newegg with the following in my cart:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 CPU (Retail)
Intel D975XBX Retail Mainboard
Sapphire X1950XTX 512MB GDDR4 Video Card
2GB G.Skill PC2-6400 (DDR800) 4-4-4-11
The package is supposed to arrive tomorrow (while I am at work, unfortunately). I will surely have it up and running by late tomorrow evening and probably not go to sleep at all Friday night. I'll run some benchmarks as soon as I'm able and post some screenshots. Initial screenshots will be at stock settings, but rest assured the warranty will be voided as I want to see if I can push this CPU to ~3.0GHz with the stock cooler.
I just hope I will not be worn out -- I believe there are a few computer builds this week (one that I need to finish by Friday, actually) for customers. The nice thing is even though this is my first time building an LGA775 based system for myself, i've build a good amount of them for other people the past few weeks. I will also post pictures of the completed product, provided I can remember to charge my camera's batteries...

I'm afraid to ask how much (because I'm cheap and know this stuff is expensive),
ok... how much did this truck load of bleeding edge equipment cost you?
Is this so that you can run Windows Vista (without getting a windows experience rating of 1.0 - that's me right now), or will you be running winxp or linux on this box?

My Vista experience is 4.2 at the moment...but when I install my new AMD Athlon 64x2 4800 in the next few days, I expect that will rise as my current CPU (AMD Althlon 64 3200) only rates at that....my next lowest score is 4.8, so if my new CPU rates a 5 or just below, I'm hoping to have an overall Vista experience of 4.8. Then again, I could always try overclocking my graphics card to see if I can get a perfect 5.
BTW, unclerob...you don't have to buy a "truckload of bleeding edge equipment" to upgrade your PC. Did mine over 2 years or so, as I could afford it....and yeah, I ended up with quite a few spare parts, but that enabled me to eventually build my wife a machine of her own.
My computing experiences have improved dramatically since them....I don't have her hovering over my shoulder with the ahem's and occasional grunts for me to get off so she can get on.
